Rule # 14: Flushing with Sandals
If you happen to be wearing sandals or another form of open-toed shoe when using the public restroom, you should take extra precaution to not have any germs come in contact with your bare skin. This includes, but is not limited to:
1) Using your foot to flush
2) Pushing the door open with your foot
3) standing too close to the toilet
4) Overflows
The most important thing to be careful when wearing open-toed shoes in the bathroom, however, is SPLASH-BACK. This can be from a male peeing into a toilet or urinal and having it splash-back on their foot or a female flushing a toilet that shoots a bit of the water out the top. In many cases, it's just better to not wear sandals at all when using the public restroom.
Examples of open-toed shoes include, but are not limited to:
1) Sandals
2) Flip flops
3) Crocs
4) Slippers
5) Wet Socks
6) Hobo shoes (a piece of board attached by wrapping a rope around your foot)
7) Gladiator Footwear like in the picture above
